King Solomon Faces Imprisonment Over Vegas Mass Shooting Threat

In Las Vegas, a man who threatened to shoot up a local courthouse has been sentenced to spend eight or more years in prison.

Clark County District Court Judge Tara Clark Newberry informed Solomon Brooks, also known as "King Solomon," aged 39, that he would be serving between eight and 20 years behind bars. He had earlier been convicted by a jury for making terroristic threats or spreading false information.

This incident occurred on September 1 when Brooks told another person during a phone call that he planned on "shooting up the courthouse," according to KLAS, a local TV station.

He further added, "We will raise hell. We will raise hell. There will be a mass shooting at the next court date." The conversation revolved around a child welfare case.

Prosecutors stated that before this call, Brooks had already sent "threatening and intimidating communications" to individuals involved in the child welfare matter.

Connection to the Sovereign Citizen Movement

During the court proceedings, it surfaced that Brooks is connected to the sovereign citizen movement. Members of this movement usually deny the federal and state laws.

Due to the rising number of threats against judges and public officials, the prosecutors took this case into consideration, fearing a pattern in the United States.

Chief Deputy District Attorney Michael Dickerson was quoted by KLAS, saying, "This case highlights the increase in threats against judges and public officials, not just in Nevada but nationwide. The sentence passed on Solomon reflects the gravity of these threats and the destructive consequences they bring to the justice system. It also exposes the domestic risk and perils presented by sovereign citizen radicalization. This harmful line of thought encourages followers to hurt others, ultimately harming their own interests by refusing to acknowledge the authority of the laws and courts that keep us civilized."

The 2017 Las Vegas Mass Shooting Incident

Additionally, this case evokes the 2017 mass shooting incident in Las Vegas, which till now, remains the deadliest incident involving a single gunman in the US history.

On October 1, 2017, Stephen Paddock fired at people attending the Route 91 Harvest music festival on the Las Vegas Strip. Perched on a 32nd-floor room in the Mandalay Bay hotel, he killed or wounded hundreds.

A short while later, he was found dead in his hotel room, having taken his own life by shooting himself.
