King Charles takes on public responsibilities by visiting a cancer hospital.

A 75-year-old monarch disclosed that he's currently fighting cancer in February, resuming his public engagements while receiving treatment. His first event was a visit to a cancer treatment facility in London where he interacted with patients and medical professionals. Joined by his spouse, the Queen, it seemed like they were in high spirits as they greeted admirers and entered the hospital.

For nearly three decades, the King has been the patron of Macmillan Cancer Support. Camilla, 76, the Queen, has served as the president of cancer care and support charity, Maggie's, since 2008. The King has steered clear of the public eye during his treatment apart from an appearance at church on Easter Sunday where he greeted crowds.

To emphasize the significance of early diagnosis and promote current discoveries, the King visited the University College Hospital Macmillan Cancer Centre. With his recent cancer diagnosis, he naturally engaged with the medical team and patients during his tour, discussing the importance of timely detection.

While going through the medical wing that treats various cancers, he questioned the doctors about CT scanners' role in early diagnosis. At one point, a cancer patient named Lesley Woodbridge received the King. As they conversed, he said, "I've got to have my treatment this afternoon too," indicating his parallel healthcare journey.

The King's outing coincided with his appointment as the patron of Cancer Research UK. Scheduled to meet with their senior clinician, Charlie Swanton, he would be informed about a lung cancer project named TRACERx.

It was announced on Friday that the King could now return to active duties, in a slow and cautious manner. The palace highlighted, "The King is greatly encouraged to be resuming some public-facing duties and very grateful to his medical team for their continued care and expertise."

The palace hasn't disclosed if he'll attend his birthday parade in London or D-Day 80th anniversary commemorations in Normandy in June. Nevertheless, a confirmed engagement sees the King welcoming Japan's Emperor and Empress for a state visit in the same month.

Charles seemed relaxed and at ease as he chatted with several patients at the center including Asha Millan, pictured.
