There's speculation regarding the future of BVB's Sports Director, Gerhard Kehl. The 47-year-old held this position since 2022, but had hoped for a promotion to Managing Director. However, Lars Ricken, a new sports boss, got the job.
Now, VfL Wolfsburg and their owner Volkswagen may offer Kehl a new opportunity. They're searching for a replacement for their current Managing Director, Marcel Schäfer, who is expected to join RB Leipzig.
The negotiations will not commence until after BVB's Champions League final game versus Real Madrid on June 1. Until then, both parties have paused any other considerations to focus solely on Kehl.
The club and its owner want to make their intentions clear to Kehl before exploring other options. Even though VfL Wolfsburg is not the only one interested in the sports director, they seem determined to secure his services.
