Kambi inks sports betting deals with New York casinos
A Malta-based sports betting provider called Kambi, in partnership with Canadian gaming and platform provider Bragg Gaming Group, has signed a multi-channel sports betting technology supply deal with three New York casinos owned by Seneca Gaming Corporation (SGC). What does the agreement entail and how does it benefit sports fans and bettors?
The online gambling company Kambi, based in Stockholm, has struck a multi-year sports betting deal with SGC that covers three casinos - Seneca Niagara Resort & Casino, Seneca Buffalo Creek Casino, and Seneca Allegany Resort & Casino. In the future, Kambi will equip all three establishments with its sports betting technologies and complete product range.
The agreement also includes the establishment of betting shops, the introduction of a free sports betting product, the installation of digital scoreboards, and the implementation of Kambi's "Bring Your Own Device" feature for mobile betting. Kambi CEO Kristian Nylén said in a press release:
"I'm thrilled to announce this deal with Seneca Gaming Corporation. Through its casinos, Seneca has built a reputation as a provider of high-quality and entertaining experiences that prioritize customer satisfaction. We believe this reputation can be enhanced as guests get acquainted with the exhilarating sports betting experiences of the Kambi Sportsbook."
SGC President and CEO Holly Gagnon also expressed enthusiasm for the deal, viewing it as a growth opportunity in the rapidly expanding US sports betting market following its legalization last May. She said in a statement:
"We're so excited to be able to offer sports betting to our guests. Seneca Resorts & Casinos has long been committed to providing our customers with the most innovative and enjoyable entertainment, comfort, and gaming options. Thanks to this partnership, we can now offer them a whole new level of excitement."
Both companies anticipate that the sports betting program rollout will be completed before the end of the year. Canadian Bragg Gaming Group, whose subsidiary ORYX already operates several gaming facilities in Western New York, is also involved in the launch. Bragg is a platform provider that offers a fully managed sports betting and gaming service, and the company is still waiting for regulatory approval. If granted, ORYX will also be entrusted with managing SGC player accounts. Bragg CEO Dominic Mansour commented on this:
"This agreement with Seneca and Kambi is a groundbreaking moment for Bragg. The US casino and sports betting market is exploding, and our expertise in casino and player account management positions us well to benefit from this growth. Working with Kambi and Seneca is the perfect stepping stone to capitalize on these lucrative opportunities."
In addition to the SGC deal, Kambi and Bragg have entered into other commercial agreements that transcend the scope of this partnership. The collaboration is not limited to the United States but also extends to other regions of the world.
Kambi has been expanding its international business for some time already. Back in January, the sports betting company signed a deal with Parx - the largest casino in Pennsylvania, making it the official betting partner. More significantly, in April, an exclusive deal was struck with Mohegan Sun, one of the largest casino groups in the USA. The result of Kambi's burgeoning US business has been a strongly positive H1 financial report. Turnover increased by 25.3% in July compared to the previous year, making Kambi one of the more successful companies in the wake of US-wide market liberalization.
Despite legalizing sports betting in May 2018, not all states have followed suit. Kambi's partnership with SGC is significant because it allows them to tap into a New York gaming market in transition. New York, with a population of around 19.6 million, presents a unique opportunity amidst the patchwork of legalized and unregulated sports betting. State Senator Joseph Addabbo Jr. attempted to pass a mobile sports betting law last year, but it was rejected by the House of Representatives. However, a modified amendment is slated to go into effect in 2020, although its actual implementation remains uncertain.
In summary, Kambi, in partnership with Canadian provider Bragg Gaming Group, has signed a multi-year sports betting agreement with Seneca Gaming Corporation to equip three New York casinos with their sports betting technologies and products. This goes beyond betting shops and digital scoreboards to include a mobile betting feature, skill-based games, and potential for future partnerships in the United States and other parts of the world.
