The killing of a cherished friend. - Kailie was pricked 484 times.

The killer had taken a life in the small village of Perry, Maine, back in April 2022. The gruesome murder was discovered once the authorities found the brutally assaulted body of Kimberly Neptunes. The coroner documented a shocking 484 stab wounds on the 43-year-old victim.

A week after the tragic event, Brackett and Donnell Dana (40) were put under arrest. However, during the trial separated for the male counterpart of the ex-pair, the jury couldn't reach a verdict. The case, therefore, was thrown out without a guilty ruling.

Kailie Brackett pleaded not guilty and kept her stance firm until the very end. She expressed her disappointment over the inability of the victim's family to reconcile with the crime, as the perpetrator was still residing within the community unscathed.

Rare crime in the region

This was the first murder in the area in over five decades, and the protective measures around the trial were consequently heightened. However, the emotions still simmered.

During the trial, Brackett's mother lashed out at her daughter's lawyers, deeming them "incompetent" for not properly representing the woman. She also mentioned that her grandson was being bullied and there had been an attack on their caravan, where they resided with the minor.

Search for justice

The family of the slain woman felt unsatisfied. They had called for the maximum sentence - life imprisonment. Kimberly Neptunes was described as a "thoughtful and compassionate individual" who had given aid to anyone in distress.

The speculations on what drove Kailie Brackett to commit such atrocity ranged from financial debts owed to the victim to the couple's attempt to steal jewelry and painkillers.
