There have been concerns about the credibility of witnesses whose testimonies led to Baldwin's indictment. The actor was claimed not to have checked the weapon which killed Hutchins.
The prosecutor's office refuted this claim. Judge Marlowe Sommer also failed to support this allegation. The trial is scheduled to commence as expected in July. If found guilty, Baldwin might face imprisonment for up to 18 months.
In March, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, the film's supervisor, was convicted of neglecting her supervisory duties on set. She received a 18-month prison sentence without parole.
Alec Baldwin insists his innocence
The fatal shooting of Halyna Hutchins occurred in October 2021 on the sets of Baldwin's low-budget western "Rust" in Santa Fe. Camera operator Hutchins was fatally shot by a bullet fired from a gun Baldwin was handling. Baldwin maintains his innocence and insists he didn't pull the trigger of the gun. Nevertheless, a separate expert opinion suggests that the shot could've been discharged only through pulling the trigger.
