Jason Koon: Rising to Stardom in the World of Poker
Jason Koon, an American poker player from West Virginia, scored yet another massive win at the Triton Poker Series in Jeju, South Korea. He emerged victorious in a Short Deck Hold'em tournament, pocketing a whopping $2.8 million, pushing Phil Ivey out of the top 10 highest-earning poker players of all time.

Participating in six tournaments of the Triton Poker Super High Roller Series, Koon reached four final tables and triumphed in two events. On March 8, he defeated Stephen Chidwick, Britain's most successful pro, and took home the prize. Koon was humble in his victory:
"Winning six tournaments, getting to four final tables, and winning two of them…that doesn't happen often. I've been running well these past few weeks, and it happened to me this week."
With this win, Koon overtook poker legend Phil Ivey, knocking him out of the top 10 spots in the all-time money list created by the British online poker database The Hendon Mob. Koon now ranks 8th with a total of $27.9 million in earnings. Ivey slipped to 12th place with $26.2 million in winnings.
Koon's Shining 2019
This year, Koon is domineering in third place on the money list for 2019, boasting $4.6 million in prize money, just behind his fellow countryman Bryn Kenney ($4.9 million) and Spain's Ramón Colillas ($5.1 million).
Since his career began in 2006, Koon's success has been showered with laudatory accolades. Despite not winning any World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelets or World Poker Tour (WPT) titles, the US citizen, supported by partypoker, has established a commendable track record. Koon, who currently resides in Vancouver, started playing poker online, using the pseudonyms JAKoon1985 and NovaSky.
Jason Koon's Ascension
Koon's notable performance in 2009 marked his first significant achievement in the poker world. He won the PokerStars Spring Championship of Online Poker tournament, raking in $300,000.
His initial foray into the WSOP in Las Vegas resulted in a lower-ranking finish. The following year, Koon participated in the World Poker Tour in the same city, eventually finishing 4th and winning $225,000. From then on, he began taking part in several major live tournaments, consistently achieving top placings.
In 2012, he narrowly missed out on his first WSOP bracelet, losing heads-up against Leif Force.
In January 2017, he secured his first million-dollar prize in the PokerStars Championship in the Bahamas, defeating 40 players in the Super High Roller event. Koon's exploits continued in tournaments across the globe, resulting in impressive high-ranking spots.
One such instance was his Short Deck Ante-Only win at the Triton Super High Roller Series in Budva, Montenegro, in May 2018, where he walked away with $3.5 million. Less than a week later, he pocketed an additional million dollars at the Aria Super High Roller tournament in Las Vegas.
These recent victories in South Korea cemented Koon's fame as a poker prodigy. He is rumored to be attending the WSOP in Las Vegas from May 28 to July 16, where he might encounter Phil Ivey, who is currently facing trial for poker fraud. Should Jason Koon win a bracelet this year, his stardom will be further solidified.
