Now confirmed: - Italy manager dismissed following angry outburst.
Massimiliano Allegri, who's 56, won the Coppa Italia with "the old lady" on Wednesday but by the end of the final game against Atalanta Bergamo (score: 1-0), signs pointed to him leaving Turin soon. Sure enough, he announced his immediate departure on Friday.
During stoppage time, he lost his cool with the referees and got kicked out. He also ripped off his tie and, according to reports, insulted and threatened journalists afterward. This was too much for Juve's higher-ups.
It's claimed that Allegri threatened the editor-in-chief of "Tuttosport": "I know where I can find you. I know where to wait for you. I'll come and tear off both your ears. I'll come and punch you in the face." Juve made a statement apologizing for Allegri's actions, but he himself denied making the threats.
The ex-successful coach, who's won six league titles and five cup wins, was fined 5,000 euros by the Italian league. Allegri's second stint in Turin - he came back in 2021 after a two-year break - ended in disgrace, despite the cup win. For the rest of the season, it'll be up to interim youth coach and former defender Paolo Montero, who's 52, to bring it to a close.
Fans have been craving the return of Zinedine Zidane, who's 51, for quite some time. The Frenchman played for the "Bianconeri" as a player from 1996 to 2001. Juve has been seeking their next league title since 2020.
