Obtaining both the Triple and European Championship titles. - Is Wirtz the Contender for European Footballer of the Year?

Florian Wirtz celebrated his 21st birthday by receiving a small cake and fireworks. As his parents, Karin and his dad, hugged and congratulated him before his flight from Rome to Cologne on Friday morning.

Xabi Alonso, the champion manager, shared his admiration for the young star, remarking, "Flo has a bright future ahead of him! It's a joy to witness his growth. He's just 21, yet he's so incredibly talented."

Could Wirtz be Europe's Best Footballer?

Wirtz was instrumental in Bayer Leverkusen's triumph over Roma in the second leg of the Europa League semi-final with a crucial goal, contributing to the team's journey to the league's finals.

Wirtz has achieved significant milestones in his young career. By scoring 12 times in the UEFA Cup or Europa League before turning 21, he joined an elite group that includes only Dieter Müller (70) from 1. FC Köln in 1975.

In the current season, Wirtz has scored four goals and assisted four more. He has tallied 18 goals and 19 assists in a total of 45 competitive matches, showcasing his immense skill as a playmaker. His breathtaking performance in 2023 earned him the Goal of the Year award, while his April 2024 strike won the Goal of the Month.

The competition is stiff, with Jude Bellingham (21) being Wirtz's main contender for the title. However, the impending European Championship hosted in Germany could be the final deciding factor in determining Europe's top footballer.

The impressive statistics paint a clear picture: Wirtz has what it takes to challenge Jude Bellingham for the prestigious honor. Both players have an opportunity to win high-profile titles in the coming months, but it will be up to their performances at the European Championship to determine the European Footballer of the Year.
