Controversy in Treason Court Case - Is the attorney representing the lover of the coup plotter a Russian operative?
Dr. Sylvia Schwaben is set to defend the partner of a coup prince against allegations of aiding a terrorist group. The backstory: Vitalia B. reportedly organized an invitation to the Russian Consulate General from Reuß in 2022, where the aristocrat attempted to connect with Vladimir Putin (71). Charges: high treason!
The Federal Public Prosecutor's Office refused to comment on whether this constitutes treason. "Your inquiry relates to details of the case," the authority in Karlsruhe replied.
Ms. Schwaben's connection with Russians occurred without her client's authorization or approval. Vitalia B. believed that her future lay in Germany as the spouse of Prince Reuss.
Lawyer shocked
Noted Munich defense attorney Dr. Nicolas Frühsorger expressed alarm at the attorney's actions: "For instance, if parts of the documents or information from the documents were passed on to the Russian embassy, 'betrayal of secrets' would now be the least of her issues, while the more significant issue would be 'party treason'."
Judge Jürgen Bonk authorises the couple to participate in a handshake during the trial's next day. He also plans to reconsider the need for them to disrobe completely and undergo daily searches.
