Large sums awarded to the winner! - Is Hürzeler working on his magnum opus?

Fabian Hürzeler (31) has been in charge of FC St. Pauli as head coach for 17 months, and is now also the promotion coach.

The ultimate battle in the 2nd division is all about securing the top spot.

In the past, he's won championships as a junior footballer: in 2009 with the U17s and in 2012 with the U19s of FC Bayern Munich. Elsewhere, he's celebrated promotions (without claiming first place): 2017 as a player-coach with Pipinsried in the Bavarian regional league, 2022 as a player with Eimsbütteler TV in the Hamburg Oberliga.

Will Hürzeler's masterpiece come alive with the pros?

Hürzeler: "We're aiming to head to Wiesbaden and bring the trophy home."

Though it won't be officially presented until Monday afternoon as part of the promotion celebrations at Spielbudenplatz. The team is determined to come away with something that day. "The atmosphere within the squad is that the best way to celebrate is with a triumphant." says the coach.

With three points in Wiesbaden, St. Pauli would hold onto first place. This also has financial implications. The second division champions would receive approximately two million euros more (around 33.6 million euros) in television revenue than the runners-up in the new Bundesliga season.

Millions for 1st place!

Hürzeler: "We're aware that this is a relevant consideration, as every extra euro is good for the club. However, we're not primarily doing this for the money, but to bring joy to the city and give something back to the fans who back us at every away game."

Over 3,300 fans are set to support the team at the 15,295-seat Wiesbaden stadium. At least 800 of them will take a special train departing from Harburg at 6.38 am on Sunday (due to a route interruption). After a 6.5-hour journey with festive cars, everyone should be in fighting form by the time the championship trophy is lifted.
