Searching for Pochettino's replacement - Is Chelsea considering hiring this Bundesliga coach?
Chelsea frees Mauricio Pochettino (52) from his duty after a single year. Though he had a commendable second half of the season, they only managed to rank sixth in the league. This is insufficient for the club's president and American investor, Todd Boehly (50), who poured 468 million into procuring new players the previous season.
The Daily Mail lists Sebastian Hoeneß (29) as a potential candidate and refers to him as a "proactive coach" who has was single-handed in lifting Stuttgart from the Bundesliga relegation region to the Champions League. Hoeneß is considered one of the finest young German coaches, making him a tempting choice for the vacant Chelsea position.
Other potential coaches on Chelsea's radar
Kieran McKenna (38/Ipswich Town), Michel (48/Girona), Enzo Maresca (44/Leicester), Thomas Frank (50/Brentford), Vincent Kompany (38/Burnley), and Tuchel are other options that Chelsea are considering. Bayern, meanwhile, has also inquired about Frank, according to the Daily Mail. And Vincent Kompany has been a hot favorite to succeed Tuchel at Bayern.
However, it's highly improbable that Hoeneß would take up the Chelsea post. When he was considered a potential option to follow Tuchel at Bayern, Hoeneß confirmed his contract extension to run until 2027 in the first week of March. He stated then, "I don't have any thoughts that the path with Stuttgart will come to an end at the conclusion of the season. We can continue developing here and we are on the right track."
Chelsea's interest in Hoeneß is likely to be a one-sided pursuit.
