Injured Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert triumphs over the Las Vegas Raiders.

LA Chargers' quarterback Justin Herbert was injured during their win against the Las Vegas Raiders, fracturing the middle finger on his non-throwing hand. The incident occurred when his finger got stuck in an opponent's facemask during an interception in the third quarter. However, Herbet continued playing and even made a humorous reference to Monty Python in a post-game conference.

This isn't the first time Herbert has played injured, as in the second game of the 2022 season, he broke his rib cartilage but didn't miss any games. During the start of the 2023 season, Herbert did quite well, with a 71% completion rate, 1,106 passing yards, seven touchdowns, and three rushing touchdowns. A perfect start, void of any interceptions in the first three games.

The game was played at SoFi Stadium, which was filled with Raiders fans. This wasn't a problem for Herbert and his team, though, as they captured their second victory of the year, improving their record to 2-2. The Raiders, on the other hand, lost their third game in a row.

Raiders' quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo was unable to play due to a concussion, which marked Aidan O'Connell's first NFL start.

The Chargers led 24-7 during the first half, with Herbert contributing two rushing touchdowns and Keenan Allen adding a touchdown reception.

In the third quarter, the Chargers' safety Tre’von Moehrig intercepted Herbert, resulting in Herbert being knocked down by Raiders' Maxx Crosby and Adam Butler. His left middle finger was caught in a facemask, causing a fracture and a battered fingernail.

Herbert was taken to the sidelines for medical treatment and emerged with a splint on his hand. Despite the injury hindering handoffs, he returned to the field for the next possession. Coach Brandon Staley had high praise for his quarterback, calling him 'a tough customer.'

In reference to his injury, Herbert quoted from Monty Python and The Holy Grail, saying, "‘Tis but a scratch, just a flesh wound. Got it stuck in the helmet. Thankful for all the doctors and all of the trainers out there that helped me get through that."

The Chargers went on to win, but failed to score again. However, they held onto the seven-point lead and covered the -5.5 point spread.

With Herbert listed as "questionable" on the injury report, the Chargers' season looks promising. He's not expected to miss any time due to the injury.

The Chargers have an early bye in Week 5, allowing them time to consider surgical treatment if they feel it will speed up the healing process. Running back Austin Ekeler (ankle) is expected back after the bye, but wide receiver Mike Williams (torn ACL) is out for the season.

After their bye week, the Chargers play the Dallas Cowboys (3-1) and the Kansas City Chiefs (3-1), two tough opponents.

The Chargers initially started the season with a projected season win total of 9.5 over/under. This hasn't changed, despite their current 2-2 record. They are listed at -105 to make the playoffs and -115 not to make the playoffs.

The Chiefs are favored to win the AFC West at -330 odds, while the Chargers sit as the second favorite at +330 odds. The Raiders and Denver Broncos are far behind at +2000 and +3000 odds, respectively.

The Chargers were initially +2500 odds to win Super Bowl LVlII, but dipped to +3000 odds after beginning the season with a 0-2 record. Their AFC Championship chances at +1500 show a slight improvement.

The Chargers currently have a game against the Kansas City Chiefs coming up, followed by a showdown against the Dallas Cowboys.
