Following his exit from Borussia Dortmund - Initial clubs eye Reus

Borussia Dortmund has confirmed that they will not be extending Marco Reus' contract beyond the summer. This news is expected to upset many fans. In a heartfelt video at the empty Signal-Iduna-Park, Reus, a beloved figure among the fans, expressed his feelings about leaving the team he's been part of for twelve years: "Dear BVB fans, I've played in this amazing stadium for twelve years, dedicating half my life to this club. Although there have been hard times, I've always thought the good moments outweighed the bad. Unfortunately, the club and I have decided not to renew my contract."

While Reus, a local Dortmund talent, has stayed loyal to his hometown club, he'll be moving on after this season.

Hans-Joachim Watzke, the BVB CEO, expressed his admiration for the iconic player: "Marco Reus is one of the greatest players in Borussia Dortmund's history. Born and raised in Dortmund, he played almost a decade in our youth academy, twelve seasons with the pros, and served as team captain for a long time. His relationship with our club is exceptional."

Watzke further stated: "We wish Marco all the best for his post-football career. We hope he'll rejoin BVB someday, as he'll find interesting challenges waiting for him here in his hometown."

Reus, the second highest scorer in BVB's history, has won the DFB Cup twice with his beloved club but has never managed to win the championship. He's been the team captain for five years, from 2018 to 2023.

Despite this development, Reus is determined to continue his playing career.

Reus has been determined to find out what his next steps will be, so he can fully focus on his future without any distractions from his current club situation.

There are rumors that a move to the United States is being seriously considered. However, a move within the Bundesliga is not an option at this time.

Leaving Dortmund to play for a foreign team after this season would be a significant change for Reus, who is deeply rooted in the city and maintains strong ties with his family and friends.
