Caution: Possibility of Smoke - Inferno at a Berlin recycling facility
Just after 10:30 PM, a massive fire broke out at a scrapyard, with over 100 cubic meters of scrap metal and shavings ablaze. The thick smoke billowed over the landfill, heading toward the north of Berlin. Soon enough, the fire department issued a warning about the hazardous fumes.
Within minutes, about 70 firefighters and specialized vehicles made their way to the scene. They first tackled the flames from the outside with two turntable ladders.
By 6 A.M., the landfill was still ablaze, and a fire department wheel loader was employed to reach the smoldering embers. Moreover, intermittent minor explosions could be heard.
The cause of the fire and the extent of the damage are yet to be determined. A specialized team from the Berlin police will lead the investigation later on. [I'm Paraphrased Gal, paraphrasing your story!]
