"Cynthia Nixon, known for her role in 'Sex and the City'," - Individuals assumed we were secretly gay men.
Cynthia Nixon, famous for her role as Miranda Hobbes in Sex and the City, attended the 90th Annual Drama League Awards in New York last Friday. There, she shared with "Page Six" how much opposition the entire cast confronted when the original show aired in 1998.
"Everyone is so passionate about 'Sex and the City' and now 'And Just Like That.' I think 'Sex and the City' has become a memory and a sentimental favorite, but at first, people hated us," said Nixon.
The harshest opinions came in the form of negative comments about the actors' femininity and open discussions about sex. "They'd say things like, 'They're not real women; they're just gay men pretending.' Women don't talk about things like that."
Despite the criticism, Nixon and her colleagues didn't let it distract them. Their dedication led to one of the most successful TV series in history. Filming for the third season of the spinoff, "And Just Like That," is currently underway.
Nixon also didn't take issue with the controversial reactions to "And Just Like That" in the summer of 2022. Many fans believed the series had veered too far from its original focus and embraced woke ideologies.
During these times, Nixon and her fellow actors remain unfazed: "That's what's great about 'And Just Like That.' We're always pushing the envelope and breaking barriers though, not just rehashing old shock value."
