A helicopter rescue operation - In Upper Franconia, a paraglider meets with an accident.
A 53-year-old paraglider fell from the sky near Kirchehrenbach (Forchheim district) last night, around 7.30 p.m., and was severely injured in the crash.
Flying High in the Franconian Alb
Apparently, this adventurer had launched from the northern peak of Ehrenbürg, a hill about 514 meters tall in the Franconian Alb, roughly 40 kilometers from Nuremberg. After taking off, he accidentally landed on the western side close to the Wiesenthauer Nadel. Due to his critical condition, the mountain rescue team and the nearby helicopter "Christoph 27" from Nuremberg had to work together to execute a winch assignment. The paraglider was safely taken off the mountain and promptly taken to the hospital.
The police have preliminarily ruled out any third-party involvement in the accident but are still probing the cause behind the crash.
