In the sports betting industry, Sky Bet made its debut in Germany.

British bookmaker Sky Betting & Gaming has established its German wing with the website skybet.de. The new site provides access to more than 50 betting markets featuring approximately 20,000 live bets each month. The affiliation with the German pay-TV broadcaster Sky is predicted to boost its prospect on the German soil.

For a while, skybet.de featured a placeholder, but the complete announcement welcomed visitors, indicating superb prospects for customers. Since 2016, only the "Super 6" free betting game was available. Now, the whole betting platform, furnished by software producer SBTech, is up and running. The website presents an array of sports for wagering, with soccer, tennis, basketball, ice hockey, and handball being the top bet markets. Fringe sports like snooker, eSports, surfing, and Formula 1 are also covered. Various promotional mechanics are implemented to lure patrons to place bets. For example, "odds boost" bets offer enhanced winnings without enhanced risk. Additionally, the familiar "Cash Out" option permits a withdrawal before the match closes. The local payment options like Sofortüberweisung and giropay will pique German customers' interest.

The launch of the German website is Sky Betting & Gaming's second overseas endeavor, and the first was in Italy, which incorporated a casino alongside sports betting, differentiating it from skybet.de, which lacks a casino domain and omits bingo and poker, as found on its UK counterpart. The legal complexities of these betting forms in Germany, which became a political topic lately owing to the Paradise Papers, likely influenced this exclusion.

A potent partnership with pay-TV broadcaster Sky

Although Sky Betting & Gaming is an autonomous entity, it ceased to be a part of Rupert Murdoch's Sky media group in 2014 and now belongs to CVC Capital. However, Sky media group maintains a stake in the online bookie and retains long-term rights to the pay-TV channel's brand and logo. In the German market, the firms have a deeper connection, with Sky Deutschland GmbH listed as the owner of the Skybet website. The synergy of the two entities is likely to elevate the Skybet brand's visibility through promotions and commercials on the media partner's TV broadcasts.

The UK market has been notoriously competent, with many entities competing for the affection of sports enthusiasts. However, the dynamic competition in Germany is advantageous for customers, prompting probable adjustments and enhancements in services from incumbent providers such as tipico, bwin, or bet-at-home to confound Skybet's foray into the market.
