In North Rhine-Westphalia, healthcare professionals are often paid below the average salary, despite a shortage of skilled staff. This information was released on Tuesday by the State Statistical Office. In April 2023, orthopaedic technicians' gross monthly salaries were as low as €2,372, while dental assistants earned €2,510, opticians made €2,637, medical assistants received €2,852, and pharmaceutical-technical assistants' wages were €2,864. These figures are over a thousand euros below average.

Across all professions in North Rhine-Westphalia, full-time professionals earned an average monthly salary of €3,662. According to the data, workers in geriatric care (€3,926) and nursing (€4,096) received above-average pay. As of May 1, 2024, the minimum nursing wage increase will result in a rise in earnings for those in geriatric care.
