Werder Bremen's U23 team is almost promoted. - In his final game at home, Baumann anticipates triumph.
The Bremen youth team emerged victorious with a 1:0 scoreline in their first promotion game, playing against Altona 93, the Oberliga champions from Hamburg. This win has virtually guaranteed their promotion. Some high-profile attendees of this match included the professional manager Clemens Fritz, NLZ head Bjoern Schierenbeck, as well as the business manager Frank Baumann.
Clemens Fritz jokingly commented on the outcome, saying, "I might be headed to Todesfelde on Sunday. It seems like a fitting end to my time here."
Baumann confident of victory in final home game
Despite being a prolific goalscoring team, evidenced by their 213 goals in the Bremen League, the Werder's attacking prowess was somewhat subdued in this match, with limited opportunities for big scoring chances. The anticipation and uncertainty in the air was palpable. The lone goal in the 22nd minute occurred when Altona's left-back Saibou accidentally kicked the ball into his own net while trying to free himself, resulting in a 1:0 lead for Werder. The game then stagnated, with only minimal action taking place.
Coach Christian Brand expressed his desire for a more assertive approach during certain parts of the game, saying, "I'm not trying to find faults in the soup, but I would've liked to see more aggression in certain situations."
If Altona fails to win their next match against Todesfelde (Schleswig-Holstein) on Wednesday, Werder's promotion to the tournament will officially be secured. If not, the Bremen team can settle the matter on Sunday (3 p.m.) in a match against Todesfelde, where the top two teams from the three-round tournament will ascend.
