Polish director presents biopic depicting AI as the dictator. - In a Cannes film, Putin passes away.
Currently, Vladimir Putin is being discussed at the annual Cannes Film Festival due to an upcoming movie featuring him. Interestingly, he didn't participate in the making of the film - it was engineered by artificial intelligence.
During a discussion, Polish director Patryk Vega (age 47) shared his experience of reaching out to the Russian leader: "I called Putin and asked if he was interested in participating. Jokingly, I said, 'Oh, I was just joking.'"
Vega's film "Putin" is a thorough biographical account of the Russian ruler, tracking his life for approximately 60 years. During a presentation at the event, Vega revealed that Putin expires at the end of the movie: "It should have a happy ending."
The AI process employed in the production of the movie allowed the artists to create a believable persona of Putin without his direct involvement. Initially, they intended to use snippets of actual footage of Putin. Unfortunately, the quality was not satisfying. To function optimally, Vega explained that AI requires 20,000 high-resolution images.
In lieu of using existing footage, Vega claims to have pioneered a new technology. This innovative method allows the AI to superimpose Putin's visage onto an actor's face, both in size and appearance. "It's the first movie to utilize this technique."
In the film, Putin portrays several aspects of his public persona; he is seen in prominent positions and playing the piano. The film also contains less politically correct scenes, like Putin admiting to wetting himself in a hospital bed.
When asked why he was endeavored to delve into Putin's psyche, Vega stated, "I wanted to delve into Putin's mind." He deemed Putin not insane, but with the leader, his ego drives everything. Conceiving the idea shortly after the invasion of Ukraine, Vega's creation evolved into a hybrid political thriller and psychological profile.
Uncertainty lingers in regards to the authenticity of the AI-created Putin. The distributor has announced that the film has already been purchased by over 50 countries - including Germany. It is scheduled for worldwide distribution on September 26 of this year.
