Regardless of his recent stellar displays, the BVB's defender will not be making it to the European Championship and won't receive a spot in the DFB squad led by national coach Julian Nagelsmann (36) on Thursday.
In the podcast "Alone is hard," Hummels hints at when he discovered he was not being called up.
In the most recent episode of the show featuring his brother Jonas Hummels (co-commentator on DAZN) and Lukas Feldhoff, the defender discusses the NBA playoffs. More specifically, he mentions the matchup between Oklahoma and Dallas (100:96) on Tuesday (kickoff at 3:30am German time).
Hummels was surprisngly contacted mid-game
Hummels: "PJ Washington scores free throws when he's down three or four [points] - and misses." Washington plays for the Mavericks as their center and failed to score a game-winning shot with two minutes left on the clock.
Hummels further shared: "I received a call at that exact moment, and we're not going to talk about it right now. [That occurred] right at that moment! That's how you want to start your Tuesday." Hummels added this with a hint of sarcasm.
Hummels is unwilling to provide more details regarding the conversation.
The decision is expected to be made by the DFB shortly, as they have been revealing their Euro 2024 squad members gradually since Sunday. Hummels' own teammate Nico Schlotterbeck (24) was the first to secure his spot on the Euro roster in the "Tagesschau."
It's unclear whether Hummels was watching the game live, through a replay, or just glancing at some highlights.
