Handball collision - HSV fails to obtain a license.
Is it yet another setback for the Hanseatic city of Hamburg and its Bundesliga handball team?
On April 17, 2024, the licensing commission issued a license to HSV to participate in the Bundesliga in the 2024/25 season with the proviso that a considerable financial gap must be rectified by May 3, 2024. However, the evidence for this was not provided within the stipulated time frame, as per the commission.
Penalty: HSV will not be given a license for the 2024/25 Bundesliga season.
Apparently, this was not sufficient for the independent licensing commission led by Rolf Nottmeier.
Shock in Hamburg!
HSV's managing director, Sebastian Frecke (38), expressed disbelief in a club statement: "We are confident that we have met the condition!" He also said, "We spent the past few days revising contracts and moving payments forward, ensuring that the calculated liquidity gap in the HBL scenario would not materialize. We delivered all the reworked contracts on time. Sadly, despite our strong expectations, we still received negative feedback from the licensing commission."
Are coach Torsten Jansen (47), HSV's professionals, and its employees on the verge of unemployment?
HSV has chosen to appeal the decision! The appeal has been filed before the HBL Executive Committee for a subsequent decision.
It's possible that the Hamburg club, placed eighth in the Bundesliga, may also resort to the association's internal arbitration tribunal and file a legal claim. This could result in a prolonged legal battle.
If HSV doesn't receive a favorable verdict there, there exists the prospect of forced relegation! It's not the first time such a thing has happened - after HSV Handball's insolvency in 2016. HSV was forced to start anew from the fourth division. However, they managed to return to the Bundesliga by 2021.
A situation unimaginable in today's context. [
