Across the globe, - HSV faces defeat in promotion bid.

Currently, it's impossible for HSV to reach the Bundesliga, as they missed out on promotion again. The emotional victory during the game against St. Pauli (1:0) no longer matters.

Hamburg's most recent loss against Paderborn (0:1) has unraveled their hopes for promotion. With just one more game left against Nuremberg on matchday 34, they are four points behind the relegation zone, occupied by Düsseldorf.

Now, HSV is becoming a relic in the second division.

By the time the 2024/25 season starts, HSV will have spent their seventh year in the German second-tier league, making them the longest-serving club in the division. Other potential promotions from clubs like Holstein Kiel (64 points) and St. Pauli (63) will only increase this status for HSV.

Formerly known as the Bundesliga dinosaur, HSV will be the team that has never been relegated, stuck in the second division.

Before the game in Paderborn, Hamburg needed a victory to keep any chance of promotion. However, the unexpected defeat came early.

♥ 7th minute: Muheim slid under a cross in the penalty area, and SC Paderborn's forward, Kostons, caught the ball with his chest and slammed it past the goalkeeper with his second touch. 0:1 according to Hamburg.

This game didn't especially benefit HSV. Their play seemed unstable, and their players on the field seemed aware of the game's consequences. Kostons nearly scored twice (13').

Baumgart made three changes during the break, replacing the injured central defenders Schonlau and Hadzikadunic. Paderborn still had opportunities, but Bilbija's shot bounced off the left post (60').

It's worth noting: Baumgart was respectful towards his former club. He even collected the ball for Paderborn and helped the midfielder Klaas (28) up.

The only point of sympathy HSV received from this match was the fact that Hamburg had previously experienced a similar situation, losing promotion in Paderborn in 2019. They lost 4:1 on matchday 33 that year, with Paderborn promoted immediately and Hamburg only finishing fourth.
