Houston Texans rookie wide receiver Tank Dial out for season
The Houston Texans defeated the Denver Broncos 22-17 on Sunday. However, they lost rookie wide receiver Tank Dell to a season-ending injury during the game.
Dyer injured his left leg while serving as a blocker on a goal-line run in the first quarter. Running back Damon Pierce scored a touchdown, but Dell tripped on shit at the goal line.
"Man, it hurts," Texas veteran wide receiver Nico Collins said."You never want to see someone get hurt. You see the effort that Tank puts in every day. I would hate to see one of our brothers go down like this."
X-rays revealed a fractured left fibula. Dell will undergo surgery and miss the remainder of the season.
Dell’s outstanding rookie season
At 5-foot-10 and 165 pounds, Dyer is considered significantly undersized for a wide receiver. Dell was a star player for the Houston Cougars, so Texans scouts knew the local legend.
The Texans acquired Dyer with a third-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. Dell makes his scouts look like geniuses. Through the first ten games of the season, Dyer had 47 catches for 709 yards and seven touchdowns. He entered Sunday's game with four consecutive touchdowns.

With Dell out, veteran wide receiver Noah Brown is next on the depth chart. Brown returned to the lineup after missing several games with a knee injury. In six games this season, Brown has caught 21 passes for 439 yards and two touchdowns.
Texans in playoff contention
The Texans improved to 7-5 with a win over the Broncos in Week 13. They currently sit in third place in the AFC South. The Jacksonville Jaguars (8-3) take on the No. 1 spot on "Monday Night Football" against the Cincinnati Bengals.
If the season ended today, the Texans would enter the playoffs as the eighth seed. The three AFC wild card teams, the Pittsburgh Steelers, Cleveland Browns and Indianapolis Colts, also have a record of 7 wins and 5 losses.
The Colts are second in the AFC South based on straight win percentage and beat the Texans in the playoff tiebreaker.
The Texans defeated the Colts in Week 2, and the two teams will meet again in Week 18 in the final game of the season.The Colts also started the season with a rookie quarterback as their starting quarterback. But Anthony Richardson suffered a season-ending shoulder injury and substitute Gardner Minshew was absent.
According to Upshot's playoff projections, the Texans have a 78% chance of making the playoffs and the Colts have a 67% chance. According to DraftKings betting, the Texans have -400 odds to make the playoffs and +300 odds to miss the playoffs. The Colts have a -205 chance of making the playoffs and a +165 chance of missing the playoffs.
The Jaguars are the consensus favorite to win the AFC South at -1000 odds. The Texans have a +750 chance to win the division, putting them ahead of the last-place Colts (+2,000) and Tennessee Titans (+50,000).
The Texans' chances of winning Super Bowl 58 are +4000. They have a +1800 chance to win the ACF Championship and become the fifth-ranked team in the standings.
