Mission in Elmenhorst - House is lost to blaze in carport
At around 1:15 PM, there was a fire that started in a carport where a vehicle was parked. Passersby spotted the flames and notified the fire department.
When the firefighters reached the scene at 1:32 PM, the carport was completely engulfed in flames. Unfortunately, the fire had also spread to a nearby detached house. Flames were seeping out of the roof, and so was a lot of smoke.
Numerous firefighting crews attended, aiming to put out the flames. However, they needed to work under protective gear due to the hazardous conditions.
Fortunately, the residents had fled to safety on their own. The paramedics arrived to check on them.
Eventually, the entire roof had to be torn off in order for the firefighters to reach the embers. This was not an easy task, and the flames were not fully extinguished until around 6:30 PM.
For precautionary measures, a backhoe was enlisted to demolish the carport completely. The house is currently closed off, with experts investigating the accident's cause.
