This record belongs to Hanover. - Hostage en route to Ballermann

Over at Hannover-Burgdorf on Saturday (7pm, DYn), the Danish handball superstar is just one goal away from surpassing Gummersbach icon Kyung-Shin Yoon (50), who holds the record for most field goals in a Bundesliga season. Berlin nativeMathias Gidsel is on track to claim this record for himself.

Look out for Gidsel becoming a Bundesliga legend!

It's highly likely Gidsel will snatch this record as he's currently averaging a staggering eight goals per game and has scored more than ten goals in a game six times this season. He set a new personal best when he netted 14 times against Erlangen. Yoon, whose record-breaking season was in 2000/01, made 248 field goals, which also equated to an impressive 324 goals (including seven-meter shots).

Gidsel hopeful for one final goal this season

Gidsel grins, "It's quite something to have the chance to make history - it's something that can stay with you for years. But I don't really focus on records. Of course, though, I hope I can score in the last three games."

With his 248 field goals this season, Gidsel not only leads the league as the top scorer, but he's also perfected his seven-meter penalties, not missing a single one. His fellow top scorers Manuel Zehnder (Eisenach) and Casper Mortensen (Hamburg) only have 85 and 81 seven-meter goals respectively. In addition, Gidsel also leads the league in ball wins, with a total of 26 steals.

The Recken had a close victory in the first leg with a score of 34-33, but as the season progressed, they've become the top team to beat, defeating big names like Kiel, Magdeburg, and Flensburg, who could only walk away with a point from Hanover.

Gidsel says, "This is the final push and we can finally reap the rewards of our hard work throughout the season. We still have the energy - even if our bodies are feeling the pressure. Our minds are prepared for the culmination of the season. The enticing prospect of playing in the Champions League next year is a powerful incentive. We just need to focus on our game and give our best performance. If we can do that, we'll be a tough nut to crack."
