Hollywood, Pa., casinos reopen after Christmas closure
Due to a technical glitch, the Hollywood Casino at Pennsylvania National Racetrack will be temporarily closed for approximately 17 hours starting Sunday evening.
It started just before 7:15 p.m. Visitors were asked to leave the amusement park on Christmas Eve.
As of 12:42 p.m. Christmas Day Monday only, casinos in Grantville, Pa., are reporting they have reopened and guests can return to the casino floor.
No details were released about what led to the holiday closure. This was blamed on a "technical issue," according to regional news site PennLive.com.
Whatever the difficulty, PennLive reports that police were not involved. Therefore, law enforcement does not have to respond to casinos when they are temporarily closed.
In a sparse social media post, no details about the template were given.
While we are briefly closed due to technical issues, we would like to confirm that the casino is currently open,” the casino wrote at 12:42 p.m. in a Facebook post.
"Thank you for your patience and have a great day!" the statement continued.
Some visitors complained about the closure, according to social media posts.
Officials further told PennLive that the casino had fewer employees during the Christmas holiday, which appeared to be slowing the facility's reopening process.
The Hollywood Casino was scheduled to remain open through Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
The casino's gaming room is regularly open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The casino floor features more than 1,750 slot machines as well as table games such as blackjack, poker, craps and roulette.
Recently arrested
In an unrelated incident, a 45-year-old man was arrested earlier this month for allegedly vandalizing an elevator at the Hollywood Casino.
On December 9, an unnamed resident of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania lost money while visiting a casino and became angry.
In a rage, he walked into the elevator and kicked the elevator door repeatedly. The elevator got stuck between floors, trapping him until firefighters in Grantville, Pennsylvania, rescued him, Pennsylvania television station WHTM reported.
Authorities did not immediately confirm the charges against him.
Previous fines
In addition, the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB) last month fined Hollywood Casino at Pennsylvania National Raceway $40,000 following three incidents in which minors allegedly entered the casino to play games.
Each minor is under 21 years of age.
Gambling operator Mountain View Thoroughbred Racing Association LLC was fined.
