An AfD right-wing extremist is undergoing trial. - Höcke's instructions for cheating

Before the verdict of the Nazi slogan trial is declared today, the defendant, Höcke, will have a chance to speak at the regional court in Halle. It seems he plans to use this opportunity to express his thoughts.

On a blank piece of paper, he wrote, "I am politically targeted." Above it, a yellow post-it reads, "Universal history spans the horizon." Other fragments could be "false tales about me," "legal jargon," and "legal predicament."

Höcke carelessly showed the papers to everyone, unprotected, at the start of the trial, even before Judge Jan Stengel (62) entered the courtroom and asked the photographers to leave. Eventually, the judge instructed Höcke to cover the documents on his table.

A quick verdict seems unlikely. On Friday morning, after several breaks, Höcke's lawyers surprisingly asked for a historian from Göttingen, Karlheinz Weißmann (65) of the right-wing newspaper "Junge Freiheit," to speak before the proceedings closed.

Context: The prosecutor's office accuses Höcke of utilizing the slogan "Alles für Deutschland" from the SA (Sturmabteilung) of the NSDAP during a speech in May 2021. Höcke has denied these allegations in court. During the trial, it was revealed that any potential penalty would be a fine. The verdict will probably not affect his candidacy for the state elections in Thuringia (September 1).
