Clash of authority within AfD intensifies - Höcke seeks to expel nine individuals from his political group

Initially, right-wing activists associated with Björn Höcke (52) lost their control over the Saalfeld-Rudolstadt district association. Undeterred, they teamed up with the local voter group "Alternative für den Kreis Saalfeld-Rudolstadt" (AfL) to challenge the main AfD in their regional council bid. To further escalate the conflict, Höcke himself took part in the battle against his own party with AfL-backed posters.

The situation now heats up even more!

Höcke intends to expel the remaining members of the original AfD from the party for supposedly conspiring against him. Official dismissal proceedings have commenced against the nine individuals accused.

A spokesperson declared, "These individuals willfully disobeyed or circumvented the decisions made by the party committees." They had "submitted a list of candidates claiming to represent the party without authorization or allowed this list to be submitted." This "obviously contradicts the party's regulations and has severely harmed the party."

Höcke is attempting to shift the narrative. This is important because his supporters directly infringed the federal regulations by joining AfL. Article 2 (membership), section 3 clearly states, "Simultaneous membership in the AfD and any other party, political association, voter's association, or their parliamentary representations is forbidden if a competitive relationship exists."

It seems Höcke is exploiting a loophole in the statutes to preserve the influence of his followers. The same paragraph continues, "In the case of a political association or voter's association that exists solely within the boundaries of a federal state, the responsible state executive committee will make the decision."

Essentially, Höcke has the freedom to determine who is perceived as a threat and who isn't: in Thuringia.
