Unable to sleep in Saarbrücken's open air. - Hildmann fantasizes about Prussia.
He continuously and believably expresses how much he loves his job, especially at the moment. But there are drawbacks to this as well...
Münster's third-division soccer players want to advance to the next level by defeating their rivals from Saarland on Sunday (1:30 pm/Preußenstadion/Magenta Sport). With three matches remaining in the season, promotion to the second division seems likely for the surprising third-place team.
"Who would've thought that we'd be at the top for so long as newcomers?" Münster's head coach jokingly asks. "We're determined to do everything we can to make this dream a reality."
This desire also means that the coach can't sleep. "I can't get the topic out of my head day and night. My mind is whirling so much that I can't fall asleep, thinking about Prussia," admits the successful coach who, with his team, has won nine out of eleven games recently and is only one point behind second-placed Jahn Regensburg.
On Sunday, Saarbrücken, another strong team, will visit Hammer Straße for a home game. The runners-up (6th place) need to win if they hope to secure a direct spot in the DFB Cup by finishing 4th.
In the first half of the season, the "Black-White-Greens" fought to a scoreless draw against Saarland. They had a player short for over half an hour when Thomas Kok was sent off (25/57). Hildmann, who had to stay in his hotel room with a stomach bug and allow Louis Cordes (31) to take charge, says, "Saarbrücken has immense talent. Playing around a bit won't cut it. We need to put in a lot of effort, but we still want to control the game at home."
Dominik Schad (27) is likely out for the rest of the season due to ankle ligament damage caused by an edema that's formed on his ankle. Schad was injured in the 2-0 loss against Ulm three weeks ago.
Despite training setbacks, defensive stalwart Benjamin Böckle (21/knock on knee) and striker Johnny Grodowski (26/foot complaints) should be playing. Grodowski, who, alongside Batman Batmaz (23), already has 16 goals this season, says, "With painkillers, I'll be fine somehow. I hope to put my tired feet up at the end of the month as a second division player."
● Mark your calendars, Münster fans! A new episode of the Behind-the-Scenes podcast "Preußen Privat" from the Bode-Lodge will be available next Tuesday (7.5./0:00 am). This time's guest: midfielder Luca Bazzoli (23). While he's mainly let his actions speak for himself, he still has plenty of interesting things to say. Listen for free at www.preussenprivat.de and wherever podcasts are available.
