Football: The Beautiful Game - Hessen Cup victors: Offenbacher Kickers
Offenbach won the Hessen Cup, securing their spot in the first round of the DFB Cup. This regional league team put up a fantastic fight against struggling Türk Gücü Friedberg on Saturday. Despite Friedberg's efforts, they lost 3:2 (1:1).
Friedberg struck first in the 4th minute when Noah Michel scored with an early attack at the PSD Bank Arena in Frankfurt. Offenbach gradually gained the upper hand and created more opportunities. However, they missed some early chances. Eventually, Alexander Sorge (45.+1) leveled the score with a goal on the break.
The action picked up after the restart. Keanu Staude (63') scored the lead for Offenbach. But Friedberg fought back hard, earning an equalizer from Toni Reljic (69). Jayson Breitenbach (73) then claimed the winner with a free-kick.
Offenbach has made a comeback into the DFB Cup after a hiatus of seven years. In the past, this traditional club has won the DFB Cup in 1970.
