The subject concerns Boss Herrich. - Hertha BSC responds to allegations from Ultras.
Tensions escalate between Hertha BSC and certain fan groups!
Just before the end of the season, the ultra group Harlekins published a sweeping critique and a warning to Hertha's management. They made some serious allegations.
Are these allegations that Bernstein was against an extension of managing director Thomas Herrich's (60) contract true?
Fabian Drescher (temporary president of Hertha BSC): "The process to extend Tom Herrich's contract started in the fall of last year. We were already discussing this with him at that time in the personnel committee, led by Kay. As a result, we decided to extend his contract at the end of last year. Herrich has been with Hertha for a long time, and especially during the past few years, when he was the managing director, it wasn't an easy task. He made significant contributions to our club, including the granting of the license last summer and the associated discussions with sponsors, stakeholders, and the DFL. Therefore, it was clear to us that we would continue on this path with him."
Hertha defends itself against the allegations of the Ultra groups, presenting their version of events differently.
Hertha did not respond as to whether any agreements were made in connection with Herrich's contract renewal. If such an agreement had been made, it would be legally questionable. Herrich, as the managing director of the KGaA, operates independently of the board and the association in his actions according to the business contract.
So what's the truth? The fact is that some Ultra groups have had considerable influence within the club since Bernstein's election and have enjoyed privileges. Bernstein himself came from the Ultra scene, received the most votes from the active fan scene when he was elected in 2022, and maintained a close and regular exchange with some fan representatives. It's possible that confidential information was shared.
Why are the Harlequins posting these accusations now? The Harcore fans are drawing attention to investor 777, who is losing control of their clubs (including Standard Liège and Vasco da Gama) due to several court orders. Additionally, these fan groups are concerned that the investor will try to influence personnel decisions regarding coaches and management, following a disappointing season, and abandon the so-called "Berlin way."
The Harlequins ended their statement with a warning: "No one should assume we won't be paying close attention to Hertha BSC's dealings during the summer break and the European Championship."
Divisions at Hertha BSC? The close relationship between the club and certain hardcore fan groups is fracturing.
