Major competition held in Mexico - Hertha BSC journeys to the Ibrahimovic World Cup competition.
The "Kings World Cup" is an upcoming soccer tournament taking place in Mexico from May 26 to June 8. This event involves 32 teams with seven players each, playing in a small-sided format. Among these teams is "Youniors F.C.", which includes Hertha professional Änis Ben-Hatira (35) and former Hertha professional Ashkan Dejagah (37).
Youniors F.C. is led by TikTok star Younes Zarou (26) and co-presided over by international soccer icon Mario Götze (31). It's worth noting that this team is the only German representative at the tournament, with ten Spanish, ten Latin American, and twelve other teams also competing.
As the plane departed with Ben-Hatira and Dejagah onboard, they are preparing for their first match on May 26 against "Saiyans FC" from Spain at 7 pm. As one of the German representatives, Youniors F.C. is excited to join this tournament that features teams from all over the world.
However, the "Kings World Cup" isn't just any ordinary event - it's the world championship of the "Kings League" created by former Barcelona star Gerard Piqué (37) in 2022. This league brings together ex-professionals, amateurs, and internet sensations in a high-energy, small-pitch, and fast-paced soccer format.
This unique competition has already gained popularity among younger viewers. The 2023 Kings League final was attended by 90,000 spectators at the Camp Nou in Barcelona and watched by over 100 million people via livestream. With their proficiency in technique and street soccer experience, Ben-Hatira and Dejagah are perfect fits for the team.
Florian Goll, international player consultant and co-creator of Youniors F.C. with Zarou and marketing expert Vitalij Moisejew, expresses optimism about the team's performance. Despite having minimal time for preparation, Goll hopes they can cause an upset against the Spanish champions.
In explaining the appeal of the Kings World Cup, Goll points out the team's diverse mix of ex-professionals, street footballers, and players with a futsal background. He believes that this format, filled with action and enjoyable for young fans, will gain traction and eventually compete alongside traditional soccer.
The tournament will be extra enticing, thanks to the participation of plenty of soccer celebrities. From Youtubers to international stars, they're all there - including tournament president Zlatan Ibrahimović (42), co-president Neymar (32), Eden Hazard (33), and Rio Ferdinand (45).
With tons of adrenaline-pumping soccer and a hefty prize of one million dollars for the winners, the Kings World Cup is bound to be a showstopper. And with Hertha's former professionals in its ranks, the stage is set for Youniors F.C. to give their best performance.
