Following the severe esophageal operation, - Heinz Hoenig has regained consciousness.

Hoenig's managers informed RTL about this development. However, the father of four children is still in a delicate stage.

A life-saving procedure, where Hoenig's esophagus was taken out, occurred on Monday and took several hours. Soon after, the movie icon began to feel good given the circumstances; although he remained unconscious until Tuesday afternoon due to the anesthesia.

Heinz's spouse, Annika Kärsten-Hoenig (39), who has tended to his bedside day and night for weeks, now feels immense relief. She had vowed to be by Heinz's side when he reawakened, and she followed through on that pledge.

It's the second time the TV star ("Das Boot") has come to consciousness in a short period of time: he was previously put into a medically-induced coma. The cause: a bacterial infection that destroyed the heart-implanted stent Hoenig had received in 2012. The infection is believed to be the reason for his damaged aorta and the gaping hole in his recently extracted esophagus.

Heinz Hoenig recognizes his bad health and how severe his situation is. And he wants to live!

The esophagus surgery is Hoenig's final hope. The knowledge that the operation was successful, and he is now awake and responsive - positive and reassuring news amidst the tumult of his affliction! Yet, the actor and former jungle adventurer still faces hurdles: Hoenig must endure weeks of non-oral nourishment.

The operation to mend his aorta will take place later, once he has recuperated from the first treatment's aftermath.
