You can tell that these two have found their soulmate, despite their significant age difference. For Eric and Michelle, also known as Tanja, her birthdate is unimportant. More than their age, it's the criticism they face from others that bothers them.

Few public couples have been pummeled with as much nastiness.

Michelle remarked, "It's hurtful to read such mean things about yourself. However, thanks to my life experience, I'm pretty resilient to it, unlike Eric."

By May, they're thriving. "We're doing really well," Michelle shared. "We've adjusted to our new life together and have only been separated for a maximum of five days in the past year."

They stick together despite the criticism: Eric and Michelle

Eric enthused, "I look forward to coming home from work at the studio. There's a loving St. Bernard and Tanja and our little Mia waiting for me. That's family for me and the perfect way to unwind."

"By 'little Mia,' he means Michelle's youngest daughter Mia-Carolin Shitawey (16) from her previous marriage to Josef Shitawey."

Michelle is convinced of her deep love for Eric. "It's the first time for me that the knowledge he's the man of my life hasn't faded, even after more than a year."

But the pair recall the onslaught of critics. Eric said, "This year has been challenging. From the highest highs to the lowest lows." Michelle added, "The dust has settled, but the storm isn't over yet. Let's put it this way: there are still many dark clouds looming, threatening to strike us."

Eric addressed the claims, "I was accused of using them to further my career. What rubbish. Every morning, I wake up thinking joyfully about all the people who didn't believe in our love and can't believe we're still together."

Does either of them want to wed? It appears so!

Michelle and Eric also often appear together, as here on the TV show

Michelle: "We haven't made plans yet, and I haven't been proposed to."

Eric clearly wants to surprise her: "I'll ask her. She's got no clue when it will happen. I want it to be a surprise for her."

The pop star has time for extensive wedding preparations. Michelle intends to retire from her career: "My last album will be released on July 5, and then it's all over. Next year comes the tour - and there will also be live performances from me in the future. But I'm also excited about trying something new and I'm sure that another thrilling opportunity will open up for me."
