Harrah's Columbus Opening: Slot Player Strikes Luck in Nebraska

The renowned Harrah's and Caesars Entertainment brands made history by launching the first permanent casino in Nebraska, which took place late last week.

The $100 million Harrah's Columbus, NE, Racing & Casino, a combination of gaming and horse racetrack destination, officially began welcoming guests on Friday morning, 17th of May. The interior boasts 17,000 square feet of space and offers 400 slot machines, 11 live dealer table games, and a Caesars Race & Sportsbook showcasing a 163-inch video wall and 17 flatscreen TVs.

Todd Connelly, Caesars Entertainment's regional president, commented on this momentous occasion, "Harrah's is a well-known brand that our guests have grown to love across the nation. We're thrilled to be here with our partners and friends as we celebrate what promises to be a prosperous future in Nebraska."

Caesars partnered with Columbus Exposition, which secured a casino permit through the 2020 state ballot referendum, authorizing slots, table games, and sports betting at licensed horse racetracks. To meet the gaming concession's condition, Caesars and Columbus Exposition decided to build a new racetrack, located northwest of the city's downtown area. Note that Columbus Exposition is a non-profit entity under Platte County's management. Both Caesars and Columbus Exposition will share the generated casino income.

Five casinos are under development in Nebraska. Other racetrack casinos are being developed in Omaha, Lincoln, Grand Island, and Ogallala. Hastings Park and South Sioux City are also slated to launch casino projects in the future.

New Venue, Casino

Harrah's Columbus shifted Columbus Exposition's racing license from Platte County Agricultural Park (Ag Park) to a four-mile distance northwest on US Route 81/Howard Blvd. The casino has replaced the previous location of Wishbones Events Center.

Harrah's acknowledges the past with a sports bar named Wishbones, one of two watering holes in addition to Brew Brothers, offering a full menu.

Following Harrah's grand opening, an adjacent Fairfield Inn and Townplace Suites from Marriott will soon open, both hotels connected to the casino and racing venue.

Harrah's intends to host live horse racing every Friday and Saturday from August 16th through September 15th. Additionally, they'll conduct racing on Labor Day.

The Harrah's casino runs daily from 8 am to 3 am, and with its Nebraska opening, Caesars Entertainment now owns and operates 50 casinos within the U.S.

Swift Luck

A successful gambling enthusiast enjoyed their luck quickly at Harrah's Columbus, claiming a $1,876 jackpot through a Power Push slot machine at 10:14 am. Power Push, an Incredible Technologies' title, is included in Harrah's slot machine collection. This notable win took place just half an hour after the casino welcomed its first guests.

In retrospect, Harrah's operated a temporary casino inside the Ag Park grandstand from June 2023 onwards, closing the facility before the permanent Harrah's Casino launch. The temporary casino earned approximately $7.4 million from players during its six-month operation in 2021.
