Harrah's Atlantic City Announces Launch Date for Enlarged Game Room

Next month, Harrah's Atlantic City will unveil a brand new arcade space boasting 60 game machines. This venue will host classic favorites such as skeeball and air hockey, as well as the newest virtual reality games.

Atlantic City is fast becoming a hotspot for arcade gaming enthusiasts. The Boardwalk is already home to the "Biggest Arcade in America," a 200,000-square-foot Lucky Snake located at the Showboat, a non-casino resort. The Lucky Snake also features a 40,000-square-foot indoor go kart racing track.

Dave & Buster's is also preparing to open a 21,000-square-foot restaurant and arcade in the Tanger Outlets shopping center, near Caesars Atlantic City. The company plans to launch in early December.

Harrah's, one of three casinos at Atlantic City belonging to Caesars Entertainment, will open its own arcade on November 1st. Known as "The Arcade," this 5,328-square-foot space is adorned with vibrant neon lighting and promises a high-energy, multi-sensory experience for all ages and abilities.

Along with classic games, The Arcade will offer a variety of themed machines, with highlights including an "epic claw machine" called Big One Extreme and virtual reality games like those based on the popular "Rabbids" series.

Family-Friendly Fun

Located close to The Pool at Harrah's Atlantic City, The Arcade is open daily from 10am and will close at 10pm on weekdays, but remains open until 2am on weekends. This kid-friendly gaming zone is one of the many family-friendly facilities added to Harrah's.

Gregg Klein, senior vice president and general manager at Harrah's, expressed excitement about the new entertainment space: "We're thrilled to open this lively, entertaining space offering fun for everyone. We strive to create unforgettable experiences and memories for all our guests, so The Arcade is a perfect addition to our resort."

Harrah's visitors of legal gambling age can also enjoy the revamped casino floor. The Marina District casino now features state-of-the-art slot machines and various table games. Furthermore, the resort has introduced quick-service dining outlets from celebrity chefs Bobby Flay (Bobby's Burgers) and Guy Fieri (Chicken Guy!)

In addition to The Arcade, Harrah's already has other family-friendly offerings. These include the "Family Fun Station," housed on the fourth floor of the Coastal Tower. This area has a small arcade room and an indoor swimming pool catering to children.

Reviving the Resort

Harrah's Atlantic City is attempting to halt a concerning decrease in hotel occupancy rates.

In 2017, the resort's 2,590 rooms were occupied on average 87% of the nights, with an average nightly rate of $111. In 2019, those same rooms were only booked 80% of the available nights, although at a higher rate of $128.50.

In 2021, the resort reported occupancy of just 65%, despite a rise in average nightly rates to over $164. During the first two quarters of this year, Harrah's managed to rent its rooms just 63% of the time. While efforts have been made to reduce rates, they have only dropped from an average of $149 to $144.30, a decrease of 6%.

The casino's in-person gaming income has also decreased: in 2017, Harrah's won $363.7 million on its brick-and-mortar floor, but this figure fell to $312 million in 2019 and again to $257.8 million in 2022.
