Hard Rock International continues its US expansion journey in Southern California. The company's latest bet is a $600 million development in partnership with the Tejon Indian Tribe about 25 minutes south of Bakersfield in Mettler.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) signed a revenue-sharing agreement with the Tejons in June 2022 after nearly a decade of fighting with the state over Class III gaming contracts. The Department of Indian Affairs (BIA) agreed to relinquish approximately 320 acres of land acquired by the tribe and transferred to a federal trust.

With Newsom's signature and the federal agency's decision to transfer land west of State Highway 99 between Valpredo Boulevard and Maricopa Highway in Kent County into trust, the Tejon Tribe and Hard Rock Construction officially begins. their casino project.

Developers expect to break ground on the resort next month. Construction is expected to take 20 months, with an expected opening in late summer 2025. Hard Rock International is owned and operated by the Seminole Tribe of Florida. The company owns and operates commercial casinos and assists federally recognized tribes in managing their Native American casinos.

Tejon Tribal Reservation

Although the Tejon Indian Tribe is the only federally recognized tribe in Kent County, receiving federal recognition in January 2012, the tribe did not have sovereign land until November 2022, when the BIA agreed to place the 320 acres in trust. .

The Hard Rock project is expected to occupy approximately 52 acres of the reservation. The casino resort will be built at the southern end of the area. The plan calls for building a 15,000-square-foot facility with more than 3,000 slot machines and table gaming areas.

Plans for the development also include an 11-story, 400-room hotel, 13 food and beverage venues, a resort-style outdoor pool complex and a conference room. Also included are the Hard Rock Live venue, Rock Spa & Salon and Body Rock Fitness Center.

“Hard Rock Tejon will boost tourism, create approximately 5,000 jobs, increase investment and purchases in the local economy, provide resources and services to Tejon Indian Tribal members, build privately funded infrastructure improvements at no cost to taxpayers, and increase New entertainment options,” read a statement from Hard Rock International.

Hard Rock is expected to have about 3,000 permanent resort jobs.

Booking Schedule

Hard Rock will occupy the southeastern portion of the Tejon Preserve. A 43-acre organic farm and fire station will be built on the southwest corner. A 22-acre RV park with restroom facilities will be located north of the casino resort. A 13-acre water storage and reclamation area will be established west of the mobile homes.

Further north, the tribe plans to use 102 acres for residential purposes. On the east side, an approximately 25-acre park will be created that will house a tribal administration building and a community health center.
