"The experience was enjoyable and thrilling for the audience," said Werder coach Ole Werner (36). "The club had a great night here, that's what mattered most today."
The stadium of the division two side was fully packed with 3100 fans, the anticipation for the Werder players was high. Werner started the match in the first half with his experienced players, except Mitchell Weiser (30) who was sidelined due to a lower leg injury and had to be replaced by sixteen-year-old Ian Scheffler.
Following the break, the team was reshuffled. The only ones remaining on the field were Skelly Alvero (22), Isak Hansen-Aarøen (19), Julian Malatini (22) and goalkeeper "Dudu" Dos Santos Haesler (25).
"The youngsters performed well, so we can be pleased with their performance," praised the coach.
The most spectacular moment came in the 81st minute when Hansen-Aarøen put on a stellar display: The Norwegian skillfully evaded two markers and slipped the ball past the Garrel keeper into the back of the net. The adults, who had already departed after the first half and watched the game from the stands, commended the skillful move by their junior teammates.
On Friday, Werder will participate in a friendly match at Blumenthaler SV (5.30 pm) ahead of their summer break.
