Swift, that's a lie! - Hamburg's public transportation growing more unreliable

Reaching your destination promptly in Hamburg by public transport seems to be a rare occurrence.

For VHH buses, the punctuality rate was recorded at 87.6%. A delay of more than three minutes is deemed significant in this context.

Approximately 81,000 journeys were canceled

Out of the estimated five million trips taken on the Hochbahn in 2023, around 38,000 were either outright canceled or partially canceled, while 345,000 were delayed by more than five minutes. Additionally, 42,000 of the 1.74 million VHH trips were canceled.

The Senate attributed the delays to a variety of factors including strikes, traffic congestion, police and fire department operations, vehicle damage, and last-minute illnesses. Efforts are underway for the following year to speed up public transport, with plans for traffic lights that prioritize buses.
