Grand Vegas Resort guest allegedly pulled boy from Las Vegas pool in attempted kidnapping
A man appeared in local court on Tuesday accused of grabbing a boy from a pool at the Grand View Resort in Las Vegas on Saturday.
The suspect tried to get the child to use the restroom on the Las Vegas property in what police say was an attempt to lure the boy into sexual acts. But authorities said the cautious boy walked back from the patio to the pool.
Sheldon Lynel Barber of Tallahassee, Florida, was charged with kidnapping a minor, enticing a minor to engage in sexual conduct, and engaging in sexual conduct with a minor, Las Vegas station KLAS reported Contact with minors.
He was released from the Clark County Detention Center after posting bail. He was unable to return to the hotel.
Witness Testimony
Witnesses told Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) officers that Barbour was calling the child a "mama's boy" by the pool.
According to police, Barber initially extended his hand as if to shake the boy's hand. Instead, the Las Vegas Sun reported, he allegedly grabbed the boy's arm.
A cousin of one of the victims told police she saw Barber pull the boy from the pool on Saturday. The boy's mother helped the boy swim and witnessed unwanted exchanges between the boy and Barber.
Police said the boy later told his mother the man wanted him to go to the bathroom. The boy called the man "dangerous," The Sun reported.
After the boy returned to the pool, Barber allegedly began observing a four-year-old girl who was also in the pool. Security forces then responded.
The barber has to go
A security guard asked Barber to leave the pool area. He initially did so but reportedly returned after changing his clothes.
The boy's cousin, who had been in the pool the night before, claimed Barber had been watching her. When she left to go elsewhere, he allegedly followed her, asked her how old she was and wanted to know what she was doing later that night, police said.
Police said both the boy and his cousin reported feeling uncomfortable after interacting with Barber. Officials have not released her age.
Police later learned that Barber allegedly tried to get the women at the pool to go to his hotel room with him. He also tried to lure a cleaning lady into the hotel room.
When questioned, Barber did not provide details to the officers but told them to "call my lawyer."
When officers searched his clothes, they found a herbal sex-enhancing supplement, police said.
