Enthusiastic crowd surges towards a celebrity. - Goodbye training session for Hertha coach Dardai!
A sizable group gathered at Schenckendorffplatz around 10 in the morning on a Wednesday. More than 250 supporters of various ages—from kindergartners to seniors—came to attend the season's final public training session. The weather was sunny and bright, making for an enjoyable experience for everyone in attendance.
The crowd's primary intention was to catch a glimpse of their beloved coach, Pal Dardai (48), before he stepped down after the match on Sunday in Osnabrück at 3:30 pm. His contract was due to expire, and his position would not be renewed. Cristian Fiél (44) from Nuremberg and Enrico Maaßen (40) from Augsburg were rumored to be the frontrunners to replace him. This training session, therefore, served as both a farewell and a goodbye to the Hertha fans. The rbb also had a TV crew following Dardai after the session had concluded.
Pal Dardai, Hertha's coach until Sunday: "Thank you! All's well."
Following the training session, Dardai took his time to sign autographs and take pictures with his fans. He graciously interacted with his supporters, indulging their camera phones. Many expressed their gratitude and best wishes for his final Hertha game and his future endeavors. Dardai, though, remained composed: "Thank you! Everything is fine."
Dardai strived to achieve one more goal before his tenure at Hertha BSC concluded. He revealed that he saw Haris Tabakovic (22) as a prime candidate for the team's top scorer in the second division. No Hertha player had yet accomplished this remarkable feat.
As Tabakovic warmed up during training that day, he surpassed Robert Glatzel (HSV) and Christos Tzolis (Düsseldorf) with a total of 22 goals. The Bosnian forward had the best chance of becoming Hertha's top scorer. Tabakovic's remarkably impressive goal in the previous training match even prompted Dardai to blow the whistle and celebrate the victory alongside his teammates. The game in Osnabrück potentially holds significance not only for Tabakovic, but also for Dardai...
