"He will be incarcerated" - Golfing superstar is suddenly led away in handcuffs.
Today, at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Kentucky, a man met with a tragic end as he was struck by a shuttle bus and suffered fatal injuries. Police promptly intervened by halting the traffic and closing the entrance to the golf course. However, one man was determined to reach his destination - golf star Scottie Scheffler (27), who was in the midst of the PGA Championship, a prestigious tournament with $20 million in prize money and the second of the four major tournaments. With the roadblocks in place, Scheffler decided to bypass the restriction.
A police officer noticed his attempts to avoid the lockdown. Unable to catch him in his car, the officer caught up with the world number one as he stepped out into the fray. Scheffler immediately had an interaction with the law enforcement officer, allowing the ESPN journalist, Jeff Darlington, to capture the moment on camera. Scheffler, despite his predicament, asked for help while Darlington requested the same from the officers present. Alas, to no avail.
An officer remarks to the camera, "He's going to jail! There's nothing you can do about it." Scheffler was then handcuffed and placed in a police vehicle. The golfer's indignation didn't end there - he had to take a mugshot while wearing an orange top with a grim expression.
Scheffler is facing four charges - one of which is attacking a law enforcement officer. In addition, he is accused of reckless driving, disregarding traffic signals, and committing criminal breach of trust. ESPN reports that Scheffler's arrest had stemmed from a misunderstanding on the road.
Following the incident, Scheffler was released and could be seen back on the golf course, preparing for the second round, which was scheduled for that Friday. After finishing the first round, Scheffler found himself tied in the twelfth position, shooting four strokes under par.
