Schalke's earthquake-like impact - Goalkeeping instructor let go
After the disappointing season, the struggling club dismissed nearly every player from the professional performance center.
Among those shown the door were Terodde, Latza, Ouwejan, Brunner, Idrizi, van der Sloot, Langer, Matriciani, Tempelmann, Mohr, Drexler, Baumgartl, Fährmann, and their three coaches: Büskens, Henzler, and Kreutzer.
Staff members from various departments, including match analysis, athletics, and physiotherapy, were also let go.
It was a busy period of dismissals, with tension and conflict rising behind the scenes even among the higher-ups.
A shocking development: Henzler, who was signaled an extension last week (likely by Wilmots), had to break off his transfer talks with Gladbach when he learned of his Schalke exit on Monday. He reportedly broke down in tears.
The Schalke shakeup - Tillmann justifies the mass layoffs: "We are certain that to reach our long-term goals, particularly a return to the Bundesliga, we need drastic changes in order to bring about the desired momentum. We've already made this change in the sporting management with the appointment of Ben Manga (squad planner/editor). We're continuing in this vein at other levels of the licensed area."
Disputes, even if they seem soap-opera-like, are to a certain extent essential for reaching top-quality decisions. However, if there's constant bickering at the top level, things could quickly become a mess.
The Schalke shakeup is also a significant test.
