Potential transfer cost increases in the future? - Ginczek-GAU facing demotion.
During the winter, Fortuna Düsseldorf cut ties with top earner Daniel Ginczek (33). His contract was set to expire this summer, after two underwhelming years where he managed only 10 goals in 46 competitive matches. The striker received a settlement of nearly 200,000 euros. Ginczek moved to third-division club Duisburg, where they were relegated, and he couldn't be more thrilled about his old team's current situation. If they succeed, they'll owe him big.
Ginczek's Past With Fortuna
Early in 2022, Klaus Allofs (67), desperate to save Düsseldorf from relegation, recruited the injury-prone attacker. The severity of the situation is evident in the contract terms offered. Allofs took a big risk, signing the newcomer for two and a half years and making him the highest-paid player on Fortuna's roster with an approximate annual remuneration of around 900,000 euros including bonuses. But that wasn't even everything...
If Ginczek's former club wins against Bochum in the relegation play-offs, he's entitled to a whopping half a million euros. For some teams, that's not a lot, but for Fortuna, it's a significant amount that could be put to better use elsewhere.
The re-signing of on-loan players Christos Tzolis (22) and Isak Johannesson (21) and extending Ao Tanaka's (25) contract would be critical matters if Düsseldorf achieves promotion to the Bundesliga - but the substantial hole left by the Ginczek fiasco would make these decisions even more challenging.
