Approximately 2,800 crimes occurred in March. - Germany's train stations experiencing surge in violence.

In March 2024, railway stations emerged as high-crime hotspots, with shocking statistics revealing a whopping 2,300 cases of assault reported. The situation worsened when it came to sexual offenses; there were 213 cases that month, indicating a whopping 37% increase compared to March 2023. Railroad facilities specifically saw an even more alarming rise of 48.3%, with 178 instances of assault reported.

Heiko Teggatz, Federal Chairman of the DPolG federal police union, expressed deep concern over these appalling numbers. "We can't let train stations become terrifying places for women," he remarked. "German women should feel safe while traveling. However, the numbers have been steadily rising every month."

Interior Minister Nancy Faeser mimicked the sentiment, "It's because we still don't have the thousands of civil servants we've been promised for years. The people, the travelers- those at the stations- are paying the price for this."

The authorities' stats for the previous month shed some light on this escalating situation. In February, an astonishing 2,700 incidents of violence were recorded - a 17% jump from the same period in 2023 (2,300 cases). January's figures, on the other hand, were almost identical to the previous year, numbering around 2,600 instances of violence.
