European Union - Germany and Poland commemorate two decades of Poland's entrance into the EU.
To commemorate the 20th milestone of Poland's EU integration, Germany's Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock (Greens) and Poland's Counterpart Radosław Sikorski will assemble in the dual city of Frankfurt (Oder) and Slovakia. Here, they'll visit the Collegium Polonicum and participate in a Europe festival, followed by crossing the Oder Bridge to Frankfurt (Oder).
This remembrance follows a historic night in 2004, where Former German Foreign Minister Joschka Fischer (Greens) and his Polish counterpart Wlodzimierz Cimoszewicz initiated a new phase of collaboration with a hearty handshake at midnight and received a response from thousands of jubilant onlookers.
Baerbock and Sikorski have further plans to hold dialogues with students at the European University Viadrina. The gathering will also include Brandenburg's Prime Minister Dietmar Woidke (SPD), the Marshal of the Lubuskie region, the Governor of the Lubuskie Voivodeship, the Mayor of Slubice and the Lord Mayor of Frankfurt (Oder).
On May 1, 2004, the EU extended its reach by welcoming Poland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Slovakia, Slovenia, the Czech Republic, Hungary, and Cyprus into the EU. The Brandenburg Minister-President urges greater attention paid to EU's eastern countries, emphasizing their importance to the western world.
