Germans Ready to Kick Off, Domestic Challenges Loom at Sky Bet
The British Sky Betting & Gaming group is ready to unveil their Sky Bet Deutschland website in the near future. A press release states that SBTech has been selected as the technical partner for this venture. The European expansion will take place amidst challenges in the UK market.
Although the exact launch date remains unknown, the partnership with SBTech suggests that it's happening soon. All technical aspects, including odds, prices, customer and risk management, as well as automated bonus offers, will be handled by SBtech. Sky Bet Germany's Managing Director, Jochen Weiner, said, "Our growth strategy centers around agility and technical innovation, so SBTech is the perfect choice as a sportsbook and platform provider."
With Sky's strong presence in the realm of live Bundesliga broadcasts, Sky Bet Germany is expected to claim a leading position among bookmakers in Germany's restructured betting market.
Despite these positive developments, Sky Bet is grappling with challenges in its home market. Owing to a tighter regulatory environment in the UK, Sky Bet is severing ties with several advertising partners. Their affiliate program will be shut down. Affiliates are often comparison sites that showcase products and route potential customers to providers on a commission basis.
The relationship between advertisers and their partners is currently being scrutinized. The UK Gambling Commission (UKGC) has accused gambling providers of misconduct on advertising sites before. Severe penalties have been levied on these occasions, casting a cloud of uncertainty within the industry. Since affiliates create their own content, their actions aren't directly controllable by the advertisers.
In an attempt to regain control over its marketing and avoid any misconduct by partners, Sky Betting & Gaming is currently without an affiliate program. However, a temporary move may very well be their strategy to institute stricter regulations on marketing partners in the future. As the online gambling market is highly competitive and the presence on popular affiliate sites plays a significant role in driving new customer acquisition, any prolonged absence could result in a significant decline.
On the other hand, it's possible that the partner withdraw is only a stop-gap measure. Because the UK betting market is significant, Sky Bet can't afford any losses. They need the UK market as it's the birthplace of football.
