Gérard Depardieu, a French actor, will stand trial for accusations of sexual assault.
There have been allegations made in September 2021 that an actor, whose identity was not revealed, committed assaults during the filming of "Les Volets Verts." The prosecutor's office also mentioned that he's under formal investigation for rape and sexual assault in August 2018 against Charlotte Arnould.
Depardieu has previously faced similar accusations, and he has been placed under formal investigation in the past due to multiple women filing complaints. Despite all this, he has always denied any wrongdoing.
A lawyer representing the actor was contacted by CNN for a comment, but there has been no response. His lawyer also confirmed that Depardieu was taken into police custody in Paris on Monday to answer questions about sexual assault allegations related to film sets.
Depardieu has made a name for himself with notable roles in movies such as "Green Card," "The Man in the Iron Mask," and "Life of Pi." He was even nominated for an Oscar in 1991 for his portrayal of Cyrano de Bergerac.
In 2013, he decided to become a Russian citizen at the hands of Vladimir Putin after expressing his intentions of renouncing his French citizenship in response to the government's plans to increase taxes for the wealthy.
